Torino in Italy, the European Union, BIRD contract n. FED/2009/217077 GERP
Groupe d'Etude et de Recherche sur les Primates de Madagascar and Jane
Goodall's Roots & Shoots program in Antananarivo donated 78 solar ovens to
the Ranobe community and community center. In addition another 22 fuel
efficient wood-burning stoves were donated in loving memory of Federica.

In July a PhD candidate Ondra Cundr from the Czech Agricultural Institute arrived along with two other students
in SW Madagascar on his second trip to set up a second generation biogas digester in Isalo National Park.
Ho Avy just recently got funding for the project that aims to set up wells as a reliable source of clean drinking water for
Ranobe villagers. With strict time-limit to complete the project by mid-November Ho Avy has been in high gear with the
help of our new, highly motivated social-coordinator Balzac.
The “Terra Preta ny Madagasikara” soil improvement project supported by Rufford Small Grants has produced some very noticeable results.
In areas where soils have been amended with charcoal and nitrogen rich compost, we have giant squash, a plethora of tomatoes, beets,
carrots, basil, and salad never grown in the village before.
